Summer Series 2018

Cherokee Language Technology

Star University and Pawnee Nation College will offer a six-week certificate course focused on Cherokee Language Technology

The course will provide participants with a foundation to Cherokee language technology and will help participants acquire basic skills in how to use the syllabary keyboard, smartphone apps, Cherokee font families, Cherokee language voice recognition, Cherokee learning platforms and more. This course is ideal for teachers, JOM instructors, and students that have started a path to lifelong Cherokee language learning.

Additionally, participants will have access to the new voice recognition learning platform created by international language consortium 7000 languages, SIL International, Star University and the Cherokee Pins Project Foundation.

 

The course will utilize a virtual classroom. Students can participate in person or from the comfort of their own home using the Internet. The class will meet twice a week and students will receive college credit. Cost is $150

Native Art & Culture Star University and Pawnee Nation College will offer a six-week  course focused on Native Art & Culture

STARTS: June 18, 2018

This course will examine traditional and contemporary forms of tribal arts & crafts, how sovereignty and tribal government affect the arts & crafts. Students will be exposed to the historical development of modern tribal arts & crafts through examination of culture, heritage, policies and legislation (i.e., Code of Federal Regulations, Public Law 96-38). In addition, students will explore contemporary issues in the tribal preservation of arts & crafts.
